3A Molecular Sieve is a potassium form of Aluminosilicate. It is for water and moisture control applications by selectively removing water.
Molecular Sieve 3A is cation exchanged potassium form of A type crystal structure. The potassium ion being larger than sodium ion is effectively exchanged in basic 4A type Molecular Sieve to reduce the pore size to 3 angstroms, and it enables selective adsorption depending upon molecular size.
Applications
3A Molecular Sieve is commonly used for deep dehydration of gases and polar liquids (methanol, ethanol) and easily polymerizable substances, such as unsaturated hydrocarbons (ethylene, propylene, acetylene and butadiene).
- Dehydration of Unsaturated Hydrocarbons (e.g. Ethylene, Propylene, Butadiene)
- Deep Dehydration of Cracked Petroleum Gases, such as Ethylene, Propylene, Butadiene, Acetylene and Natural Gas, and of Polar Liquid, such as Ethanol, LPG and Solvent
- Deep Dehydration Feed Gas prior to Cryogenic Separation by Removing Water, if COS minimization is essential, or a minimum Co-Adsorption of Hydrocarbons is required
- Drying of Highly Polar Compounds, such as Methanol and Ethanol
- Drying of Refrigerants (e.g. XH-5, XH-7 etc)
- Dehydration of Benzene, Toluene, Xylene and other Solvents static, (non-regenerative)
- Dehydration of Insulating Glass Units
